I have always believed there is a place for alternative therapies in our own journeys through life and I’ve always been interested in learning more about these alternative therapies and healing. As part of my final year of studies, I did my diploma thesis on Aromatherapy and it’s power to heal. As part of my studies, I specialized in forms of massage for healing, aromatherapy, reflexology, lymph drainage, and shiatsu.

I have often felt conflicted by my interest in alternative therapies because of my deep-seated religious beliefs, which often are at conflict. But the older I’ve gotten, the deeper my curiosity has grown and the stronger my belief in alternative therapies to work alongside modern science in the treatment of our bodies both completely and holistically.

Alternative Therapies, I’ve Tried

During my years of infertility treatment, Dr. Debbie Smith, using integrative complementary medicine, focusing on Acupuncture, Homeopathy, and Nutrition, by using a blend of advanced modern techniques and ancient Chinese remedies, did wonders for me during my years of infertility. My last naturally conceived pregnancy was under her care and her approach to treating my mind as well as my body, during fertility treatment was invaluable.

I’ve had Reiki which was beyond enlightening and ultimately healing as it gave me such deep spiritual insight and healing.

More recently, I’ve been seeing Michelle who has blown my mind with her ability to heal my mind and my body through her alternative therapies. She is the only one who has been able to relieve some of my back pain and calf issues after I fell from a horse more than a year ago. She also used hypnotherapy and got me to stop smoking, it’s been four months now… YAY and more recently, she used analytical hypnotherapy to help me pinpoint the incident in my life that caused my rage and has resulted in years of destructive behavior.

Jung Shim

A couple of weeks ago, I was contacted by Greg from Jung Shim South Africa to come and experience an energy treatment with him prior to their South African center opening.

Ja yeon Pa dong is an energy treatment from South Korea. Given by specially trained energy practitioners, Ja yeon Pa dong treatments are a first step to regaining physical energy and emotional wellbeing.

Practitioners use a unique combination of acupressure and sound to release deep-rooted tension and knots from the body, whilst recharging your β€˜human energy’.

To be honest, I was a little freaked out by the treatment, not so much the use of acupressure, which hurt in the places where I was carrying tension and energy blockages, but the use of sound energy, created by the practitioner really freaked me out.

Heal – A Documentary

Then I got sick this week and spent two days in bed binge-watchingΒ Netflix. One of the documentaries I watched was Heal and it really got me thinking about how modern medicine and alternative medicines can work together and be complementary, and how incredible our bodies are, containing the power and the know how to heal ourselves.

Here is the trailer:

This documentary reminded me of my banting journey and of how at the start of that journey, my body began to heal itself from so many common ailments just by using food as medicine.

It has also reignited and inspired my desire to learn more and experience more when it comes to total health and healing our bodies.

Have you seen it? What did you think?
