A year ago, I was 10 weeks into my banting journey and 12kg’s down already. When I first started out on this journey I took a lot of flack from people. I was ridiculed and made fun of, there was much eye rolling and sighing every time I talked about banting and the general consensus was that it wasn’t healthy and it wasn’t sustainable.

The most incredible thing about my banting journey is just how strong and healthy I have become. Obesity and modern diet guidelines made me sick, banting has made me healthy, it made me strong.

My weight loss has slowed down quite a bit in the last couple of months, I think this is due largely to how close I am to goal weight but also because of how hard I’ve been training for Oceans over the past couple of months. While the kg’s have not been coming down, my body shape has started to drastically change, my before and after photo’s for the transformation article that appeared in Fitness Magazine’s Fat Loss edition, are no longer really relevant. I look quite different now. Most notably, my legs, they are much trimmer and more muscular than before. My arms have also changed shape quite dramatically and I’ve noticed that a lot of the loose skin I had has started to look firmer. I still have some loose skin above my knees and in my neck but the rest is hardly even noticeable anymore.

I’m still coming to terms with my new shape and my new body. I still get a surprise when I see my reflection in a window or mirror, it’s still hard for me to believe that the image being reflected back at me is really me. I still really can’t believe that I was able to do what I did last year. I was so defeated by obesity for so very long that it still sometimes feels like a dream.

And I LOVE that my story is used to inspire others.
