Last month, I received notification from Discovery that they would no longer be accepting data from TomTom sports watches for Vitality Points. The problem, I have a TomTom watch…..

Tom

So now I need to get myself a new sports watch and the more I’ve shopped around, the more the following two things have happened:

  1. I definitely want a Smart/Wellness watch not just a sports tracker
  2. I’m confused about which brand to choose

So I did a little poll on Instagram which frankly hasn’t helped much at all either.

TomTom Garmin Apple

Maybe I should have been more specific? Maybe I should have stated experience in terms of running/GPS watches.

I got a lot of responses and the general consensus, from what I can tell is as follows:

Runners – Garmin all the way

Everyone else – Apple

General Consensus

From all the comments I’ve received, I’ve been able to deduce the following:

Reasons to choose Garmin

  • Better GPS
  • Better battery life

Reasons to choose Apple

  • Apple
  • Apple watch funding through Vitality

So why am I confused?

Because while my head tells me that the Garmin, with its 7-day battery life, in smartwatch mode and Garmin’s superior GPS, I know I won’t regret this decision and it is SUPER pretty.

I’ve since rethought my Garmin first pick choice and would rather have the vívoactive® 3 – Rose Gold

vívoactive® 3 - Rose Gold

My heart says Apple and with my Vitality membership, so long as Discovery don’t get utterly ridiculous with their points requirement, I can probably get the watch for free! This is a concern for me though because I have seen in the past that the harder I train the more Vitality increases my points target and as a working mom, time is limited, I can’t rain longer and longer, I simply don’t have the time.

And it really is super pretty too!

I am still so confused!

I really don’t know which way to go with this choice. I’ve tried asking for opinions, I’ve looked at all the options, I’ve weighed up the pro’s and con’s to each and I still don’t have a clear answer.

It’s actually been easier for me to rule out which brands it wouldn’t be. All I know is that the clock is ticking and I’m going to have to make a decision pretty soon.

Are you a TomTom user? What do you plan to do now that they’re no longer supported by Discovery Vitality?
