As you know, I read…. A LOT! Amazon has now developed quite a history of the type of books that I like and every single time I browse through their recommended list, one book kept popping up but both the title and the cover put me off:

Vain FisherAmelie
This is what the books blurb says:
If you’re looking for a story about a good, humble girl, who’s been hurt by someone she thought she could trust, only to find out she’s not as vulnerable as she thought she was and discovers an empowering side of herself that falls in love with the guy who helps her find that self, blah, blah, blah…then you’re gonna’ hate my story.Because mine is not the story you read every time you bend back the cover of the latest trend novel. It’s not the “I can do anything, now that I’ve found you/I’m misunderstood but one day you’ll find me irresistible because of it” tale. Why? Because, if I was being honest with you, I’m a complete witch. There’s nothing redeeming about me. I’m a friend using, drug abusing, sex addict from Los Angeles. I’m every girlfriend’s worst nightmare and every boy’s fantasy.I’m Sophie Price…And this is the story about how I went from the world’s most envied girl to the girl no one wanted around and why I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
The blurb didn’t entice me either, but eventually I gave into Amazon’s demands that I simply had to read this book and …. WOW…. what a totally unexpected story! Sophie Price is a spoiled little rich girl with loose morals and frankly, just not very likable at all. When I first started reading this book, I really disliked Sophie and everything shallow, immoral and materialistic that she stood for.
But then the story took me on a journey, from Los Angeles, to Uganda and even to Cape Town and I found myself falling in love with Sophie as she went through her metamorphosis,  how hardship and suffering transformed her life. I don’t want to give away the story behind this book but I will say this, it’s the most unexpected book I have read in a very long time. Yes, it does have the happily ever after ending but oh my goodness… the meatiness in the middle. I LOVED this book and I would highly recommend it to everyone!
It would seem I’m not alone in falling in love with this story! Here are what other readers had to say:
Well written, great story, refreshingly different. ”Kimmyp  |  99 reviewers made a similar statement
The story takes you on a journey of love, pain, happiness and loss. ”Sarah E. Schwartz  |  87 reviewers made a similar statement
The book also receives rave reviews on goodreads.com
I actually cried when this book end, I loved the story and I fell in love with the main characters. I really don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to ruin the completely unexpected story… so just read it mkay???
P.S. The book does cover a really serious topic as well and at the end of it, there is a call to action and a request for support and assistance here:  servinghischildren.org
