Not that I’m qualified to make the above claim, on account of having never given birth or had a kidney stone …. but still….

You guys, I’m beginning to think I may never run again! I’ve been battling with Plantar Fasciitis for more than 6 months now. And NOTHING has worked to relieve the pain so far!

I’ve rested for week’s at a time. I’ve tried running shorter distances. I’ve done courses of Voltaren. I’ve tried foam rolling and cortisone. Ball rollers and shock absorbing inner soles. NOTHING works. My heel feels better for a couple of days and as soon as I start running again the pain returns.

So I just made the decision that I’d have to suck it up and deal. I can’t/won’t give up my running but I reduced the mileage I was putting in, gave up my 2 Oceans entry and resigned myself to not running any half marathons or further than a 10km over the next few months.

I had a run yesterday morning, just under 4km’s and again by last night I was hobbling around like an old lady.

And then…..

I, the Karate Kid, took on Mr Miyagi in a bathroom fight of epic proportions that had my children in hysterics as Mr Miyagi and I slapped each other with soapy sponges, threw wet face clothes around the bathroom and sprayed each other with water from the girls bath.

That is, till I pulled off my epic kick and that idiot, Mr Miyagi, blocked it!

As he did his “wax on, wax off” blocks, I came at him, feet flying, I heard a bone crunching crack and collapsed on the floor screaming. Ja, nobody was laughing then! In fact, Hannah, my sensitive little soul, started sobbing as the Karate Kid transformed back into mom, lying on the bathroom floor with bubbles smeared in my hair as I writhed in agony.

I never slept a wink last night because of the pain and this morning it was confirmed. I have Plantar Fasciitis in my left heel and a broken baby toe on my right foot, not hard to see, considering my toe has swollen to the size of a bratwurst sausage and is a rather sickly shade of black/blue/green/yellow.

So ja… Its really beginning to feel like I may never run again. The worst part is that I can feel the changes happening in my body from not running, my butt is jiggly and my arms are wobbly and I FREAKING hate it!

I guess the lesson in all of this is that 43 year old women should not be moonlighting as the Karate Kid!
