I’m a big Uber fan! HUGE! With this vehicle on demand service, there really is no excuse to be irresponsible or unavailable ever again.

All you Uber fans with kids can use UberFamily to transport your kids too! UberFamily has just launched on a trial basis in Jozi and is an on-demand car seat option for families.
UberFAMILY vehicles will make use of MiloFix car seats, provided by Maxi-Cosi which is suitable for children up to 4 years of age or 18kg’s.
In addition, our precious cargo will be transported by driver-partners only, who have been on the platform for a significant amount of time and with higher ratings indicating rider satisfaction.
The new service doesn’t make any changes to your usual Uber request and there is no update to your existing app, all it takes is the touch of a button and you can get around Johannesburg with your child safely buckled up.
HOW TO REQUEST AN UBERFAMILY VEHICLE:
- Open up your Uber app
- Toggle over to uberSUV at the bottom of the screen
- Request the ‘CAR SEAT’ option
- Ride with your child safely buckled up in a car seat

PRICING: Consistent with that of uberVAN (R22 Base fare, R1.6 p/m, R16 p/km, R75 Min Fare)

CAR SEATS: UberFAMILY provides one MiloFix car seat that covers two age groups, meaning it can be used as a rear facing baby car seat to be used for newborn babies to children of 15-18 months of age, the seat is then easily switched to a forward-facing toddler car seat, suited for the older age groups (depending on weight), which includes toddlers of 18 months to children of four years of age. The MiloFix car seats cater for children up to 18kg and are strongly connected to ISOFIX anchorages of the car.
I haven’t tried Uber yet but it’s a fantastic concept. The drawback for me is that I think they only accept credit cards and I only have a debit card.
